Flood Forecasting System
Services
Predict Water Flow Increases in Rivers and Reservoirs, and Prepare for Flooding
Japan Weather Association (JWA) supports river, dam, and reservoir management through predicting hourly flow rates for up to 48 hours in advance at the river flow observation points or dam and reservoir locations. To predict flow rates, the following two types of data are required:
(1) Observed flow rates (and rainfall observation data, if possible) at the forecast points and upstream locations, provided by clients
(2) Predicted precipitation values in the upstream basins, provided by JWA
Based on these data, the forecast model calculates the predicted flow rate values at the target location. The calculated forecast data can be viewed on the client’s PC terminal.
Features
This forecasting system offers the following options:
(1) Freely modify the predicted precipitation values and perform simulated calculations.
(2) Covert the flow rates to water levels if a water level – flow rate conversion formula (H-Q equation) is provided.
(3) The predicted values can be adjusted by incorporating observed flow rate (or water level) data from the forecast points into the forecasting model.
