Blossom Trends
It is in full bloom at many locations from Kyushu to Kanto. With the full bloom of Takamatsu on March 30th, Shikoku region is in full bloom at all areas.
Looking at the number of days between flowering and full bloom in the average year, many locations are in full bloom 1 to 3 days earlier than normal. For example, Wakayama usually takes about 10 days to full bloom in a normal year, but it was in full bloom 5 days after bloom in this year. It is said that cherry blossoms are in peak bloom about 1 week to 10 days after they are in full bloom, but due to the warmth of the past few days, many cherry blossoms have already been seen in their peak in Kyushu, Tokyo, Yokohama.
The cherry blossom front has reached Hokuriku. In April, blossoms will occur in south part of Tohoku. In mid-April, blossoms will be seen in north part of Tohoku and high-altitude area in Nagano and eventually in Hokkaido after late April.
The forecasted blossom dates for cherry trees in all 89 locations are available on the cherry blossom forecast page (https://tenki.jp/sakura/expectation/) of “tenki.jp,” the weather forecast media operated by Japan Weather Association (Japanese only).
