JWA Speaks at International Meteorological Symposium Hosted by Central Weather Bureau in Taiwan Introducing the Latest Services for Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation in Japan’s Energy Sector
Press Release
Japan Weather Association (JWA) announced that JWA gave an online presentation at the Asia Pacific Climate Service Workshop 2021 (the “Symposium”) hosted by Central Weather Bureau (CWB) held online from Thursday, October 21 to Friday, October 22, 2021 in Taiwan.
This was the second international meteorological symposium, where meteorological experts from the Asia-Pacific region and Europe and the United States participated for discussions on climate change. JWA was asked by the CWB, the host of the symposium, to make a presentation for the second consecutive time following the first one in 2019. JWA participated in the session <Climate Services, Products, and Applications> as a speaker together with speakers from Taiwan, Korea, the U.S. and Nepal. In this session, JWA introduced its initiatives in Japan and overseas development on the following services for Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation.
- Research/analysis/information provision services for expansion of use and stable operation of renewable energy (solar and wind) by JWA
- Initiatives for environment considerations during power plant construction
- Efforts to improve the resilience of energy-related companies through research on the impact of climate change
- Introduction of trends related to the disclosure of climate information, such as TCFD (*note) compliance, which has been attracting global attention in recent years
In the panel discussion held after the speech, there were questions about trends in Japan regarding mandatory climate information disclosure and the status of platform development to encourage companies to understand and disclose climate risks, indicating the high level of international interest in TCFD compliance.
JWA will continue to provide the latest meteorological and climate services in the energy sector to the world and will also continue to promote initiatives related to climate change countermeasures in a proactive way.
