    The Japan Weather Association developed Japan’s first proprietary numerical weather prediction model by a private weather company, ANEMOS, in 1988. Its successor, SYNFOS, has been providing forecast information to customers since 2005.

    Building on more than 30 years of operational experience, SYNFOS is currently available in two main variations: SYNFOS-5, designed for short-term forecasting, and SYNFOS-2-Week, which supports forecasts up to two weeks ahead. By selecting the most suitable forecast range and spatial resolution, we provide optimized consulting services tailored to each customer’s specific needs.

    Founded in May 1950, the Japan Weather Association marks its 75th anniversary in 2025. On this milestone, we declare the following three commitments:

    Meteorological Service Act Permit No. 5

    The Japan Weather Association was established in May 1950. It was founded as the Japan Weather Association Foundation after receiving official approval from the Minister of Transport at the time.

    In May 1955, the Association obtained authorization under the Meteorological Service Act to conduct forecasting and explanatory forecast services. The permit number granted was No. 5, which is the second-oldest permit number among forecasting service operators that remain active today.
